Despite originally coming from Upper Austria Christian Pernkopf, the head of the family, has always been fond of Serfaus. An emotional connection he has probably earned from his aunt, who – in the 1960s – married former mayor Georg Mangoot. Yet, it required some detours until Christian could finally settle.

After he had learned to be a toolmaker and machine fitter Christian fell passionately in love with his new apprenticeship as a chef and waiter. With former becoming his passion.

1987
PASSION
With his passion, a master craftsman’s and a concession diploma in his pocket, Christian ventured to Serfaus. In the hotel owned by his sister Irene and his brother-in-law Franz, the DreiSonnen, Christian demonstrated his skills as head waiter and personnel manager.
1989
VISION
After only two years in Serfaus Christian knew this would be his destination in life. He purchased 1200 square metres of land and laid the foundation for the Castel. Along with Karin, the mother of his first daughter, Victoria, he built a family house with a holiday apartment.
1999
TURNING POINT
Thriftiness and hard work characterized the years until Christian dared to rebuild the house and convert it into a bed and breakfast hotel with 40 beds in 1999. In 2004, however, after the tragic death of his beloved partner, Karin, the future seemed uncertain again, for the hotel and its host.
2007
NEW BEGINNING
Finally, Christian, whose heart has beaten with his Castel from the moment he built it, decided to enlarge the Castel once again. Timidly, life returned to the Castel. 60 beds were now waiting for guests and half-board would be offered from now on.
2008 - 2014
CHILDREN’S LAUGHTER
Christian’s hotel grew and grew and so did his family! Between 2008 and 2014 his family did not only grow by one member, no. He and his wife got three wonderful children. Welcome, Tom, Max and Lea!
2011
GROWTH
Vigorously and supported by Christian’s unbroken optimism the Castel grew. New holiday suites were built making the Castel even more luxurious.
2014
FAMILY HOTEL
That’s when Christian met Heidi. It did not take long until Heidi, who originally came from Salzburg, realized that she had not only fallen for the joyful hotel owner of the Castel, but that she had become fond of the idea of being a host herself. She bid farewell to the city of Vienna and decided to end her career at the bank, a career she had pursued for many years, to start a new life in Serfaus – and who could this be done with any better than the person of your life and your family, with good friends and with you?
2016 and 2021
THE THIRD GENERATION
At the Castel we celebrate life more or less each day, but this was particularly true in the years 2016 and 2021, when the Pernkopf Family grew in third generation and could welcome the grandchildren Valentina and Matheo at the heart of life.
